Brief History

M/s WELFARE ORGANISATION FOR MULTIPURPOSE MASS AWARENESS NETWORK (WOMAN) is an organization established in May 1992 by Mrs. Kannaghi with focus on women empowerment to build a better society by providing woman folk, a common forum equivalent to the masculine race by enhancing their social, economic, and cultural status. The establishment is a Society registered under the Tamilnadu Societies Registration Act 1975, at Trichy.

WOMAN NGO from its inception concentrated on community development programmes including social and cultural initiatives, hygiene and sanitation, income generating activities, trainings, awareness camps, legal camps, and family counseling. From 2005 onwards, WOMAN NGO organized self-help groups (SHGs) in rural and urban areas and encouraged them to take up income generating activities by giving them skill trainings , marketing trainings and account trainings. We support women folks in starting their business by linking them to the Banks.

We give awareness on the importance of health and sanitation. We support SHGs to start the sanitary napkin units to produce low-cost napkins. We buy napkins from them and distribute the napkins to rural women, school children regularly at free of cost.

Menstruation is Vital for the Existence of the Human Racev, as such we have started this menstrual hygiene management (MHM) movement since 1992 and we are the pioneer in menstrual hygiene management. We have been appreciated and honored for our work by many institutions and individuals. We started "Save Girl child movement" in 1998 in rural areas .

We conduct awareness programs about safe use & disposal of sanitary napkins in Villages, Urban areas, Schools and Colleges. We have installed Incinerators and Napkin Vending Machine at many schools and colleges.

To empower women, WOMAN NGO give awareness to member entrepreneurs to earn by starting a business. This Idea was started with a vision. We advised the members not to give up and we set up a goal with systematic plan.

WOMAN NGO focus on bringing women into non-conventional areas by motivating the women to undergo trainings. We give Skill trainings on production,accounts and in marketing to 27200 members till date.Members from other states like Maharastra, Bihar, Andra Pradesh, Oddisa and Uttra Pradesh got trained from us in making of Sanitary Napkins and in Social Marketing.

WOMAN NGO encourage their member Entrepreneurs to selects their business based on viability of the skills and local consumption needs. The business should be started with low investment and the product should be easy to produce with Simple technology and it should be easy to sell among the locals.

The quality of the SHG produced / manufactured goods should not only be quantitative but qualitative to earn profit. As such standardization is very important. Standardisation is an efficient way to reduce the cost and increase the quality.

Social Marketing is one of the marketing strategies arranged by the WOMAN NGO. "Jointly we achieve" is our slogan.The member Entrepreneurs of WOMAN NGO bring their Products to a common marketing place arranged by WOMAN NGO. Exhibit their products with price tag, and then take orders for their products from the fellow entrepreneurs and public. They will supply the products within the specified period.

WOMAN NGO received appreciation from UNICEF in 2007 as "Pioneer in menstrual hygiene management".We have received many appreciations from District collectors, govt officials for our continuous work for the upliftment of the society particularly womenfolk.We have received appreciation from other states, other countries for our tireless work for the health and sanitation.We have been honored at various level for the service to women folk and towards empowerment of women.
